What is Relational Life Therapy?

Relational Life Therapy is a form of couples counseling that helps partners resolve conflicts, improve communication, identify and eliminate destructive patterns, and understand how societal and family roles may be affecting their relationships. Relational Life Therapy (RLT) uses a more direct approach than traditional talk therapy or psychotherapy, and teaches critical skills for maintaining realistic and healthy intimate connection with your partner.

Shifting consciousness is a big part of RLT work, as partners become aware of their losing strategies and patterns of individualism. The overriding goal is to develop an “US” consciousness, and reconstruct a way of thinking and interacting that starts with the “we” instead of the “I”.

RLT is the brainchild of Terry Real, a renowned marriage and family therapist with over 30 years of experience working with couples. Hailing from Cambridge, Massachusetts where his Relational Life Institute calls home today, he honed this unique and effective therapeutic approach after working in the field for decades. Lori has trained directly with Terry Real.
